Every so often there's an event for which I want to my skin to look my best, whether that be a formal event for which I'll be wearing a strappy dress, or something in which I might be sporting a bikini. This is when using a body sugar scrub is great, as it works to exfoliate dead skin, so that it can be more deeply moisturized. Since I only really have need to do this once in a blue moon, it's so much more practical to make my own, plus it allows me to guarantee that I have only healthy ingredients, thus avoiding the nastier chemicals used to make commercial products more shelf stable. This formula I came up with is simple and does the job well.

DIY Homemade Body Sugar Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Add sugar to a small or medium sized container and add the oil ½ tablespoon at a time, mixing in between. You want the consistency to be sandy, not soupy. If the mix is too soupy the sugars will dissolve in a day or two and will not exfoliate the skin as well (but you will still get added moisture from the oil.) Store in a sealed jar at room temperature for up to 6 months.

To Use: At the end of showering, it’s best to pat the skin dry a bit and then rub in circular motions all over the body and rinse well. Try using it after soaking in the tub for 20 minutes to help loosen the skin. This will help make the scrub do its best work, leaving your skin soft and smooth. You can use it 2–3 times a week, depending on how grainy the sugar type you used is.
