Looking for a handmade gift that the bakers in your life will appreciate? Try making your own homemade vanilla. It's relatively easy to make a big batch then bottle it in smaller bottles with personalized labels so you can give them away as gifts for the holidays. The catch is that it isn't something you can make last minute. You need at least 6 months to make it, but if you let it sit for a year (or even longer) the flavour is that much better. This recipe is a for a double-fold vanilla, which means you're using more beans to infuse more vanilla flavour into the extract, making it way better than the stuff you buy in store.
Keto Homemade Double-Fold Vanilla Extract Recipe.
Ingredients:
- 5-6 vanilla beans (Madagascar, Tahitian or Mexican)
- 8 oz cheap vodka or bourbon (with no added flavours) (*Vodka is more neutral while bourbon adds a touch of sweetness.)
Directions:
Add beans to a sealable bottle big enough to hold the beans and liquor.
Pour in your chosen liquor.
Store the infusing vanilla out of direct sunlight and give it a shake once per week. Wait for 6-12 months before using. The longer you wait, the more flavourful it will be. If you can handle waiting the full year, the flavour will be that much better!
