One day, one the way home from kayaking, my friend wanted to stop by Choices Market for some groceries. If you don’t know the store, it’s kinda like Whole Foods less upscale, less expensive cousin. I found some keto baked goods on sale, and knew I had to try them. I had to see how commercially produced baked goods compared to my own home baking.

Keto Convenience at a Price

First off, I am quite grateful that these are being made and sold in a grocery chain store at all. It means the keto community is growing and that stores are seeing value in catering to it. This is a good thing. Yes, they’re a little pricey, but considering the cost of keto-friendly sweeteners and flours, and the mark-up the store needs for them to turn a profit, you have to give them a little leeway. Each box sells at a regular price of $3.99, but I found them on sale for $3.49 with an extra $1.00 sticker mark-down, so I got them for a better deal. We are paying for the convenience of fresh baked keto goods. So if you don’t have time to bake yourself, these are out there for purchase. I call it a win. Each box sells at a regular price of $3.99, but I found them on sale for $3.49 with an extra $1.00 sticker mark-down, so I got them for a better deal.

Keto Donut Bites and Roasted Red Pepper Corn Bread

It appears that they made both these with a mini muffin mould, so neither looks like donut bites or corn bread. The look like mini muffins made with the ingredients particular to those recipes. Ok, I guess. I do like for things to look like what they’re supposed to be, but if they taste good, I’m not too bothered.

In the taste department, they both were a little lacking. Just not as much flavour. The donuts, made in the cinnamon sugar style, were sweet enough for my taste, but lacked the cinnamon punch I would have liked. The same was true of the corn bread, not enough roast red pepper and cheddar flavour. Perhaps they were cutting corners to make them cheaper? They weren’t bad, but they definitely weren’t as good as what I would make at home.

Overall Impressions

I would say they were worth the price I paid for the convenience, but I wouldn’t pay $3.99 for these myself when I can make them better for much cheaper myself. That being said, if you have money and don’t enjoy baking but want keto baked goods in your life, this is a great option for you to check out.
