Looking for a flexible fish dish to satisfy low-carb AND low-fat diets? This Indian-spiced baked fish recipe is flavoured with Indian spices like garam masala and turmeric and baked without any oils so that you can serve it to anyone whether they’re observing a low-carb or low-fat protocol. Simply pair it with the appropriate energy source, whether that’s cauliflower rice and a rich, creamy curry for keto types, or steamed white rice and lentil/potato curries for carb-ups, or a combo of the two for people with broader palates.
Keto or Carb-Up Indian-Spiced Baked Fish Recipe
- 300g white firm fish fillet (*I used basa.)
- ¼ cup onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
- ¼ teaspoon sweet paprika
- ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- fine sea salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
Wash fillet under running water and pat dry. Make slits on the fillet and set aside.
Make a paste with with the remaining ingredients. Cover the fillet with the paste on both sides, ensuring some gets in the slits too. Set aside for 30 minutes to an hour (no longer than 1 hour).
Preheat the oven to 325F and bake for 30-40 minutes. After 20 minutes, run a wooden spoon in the slits to slightly widen them for even roasting. Serve with cauliflower rice or regular rice.
