With barely any effort, you can find scads of different keto tuna or salmon sandwiches or wraps in the Ketoverse, but try and find one that features a more alternative fish like herring and there are none to be found... until NOW!
Herring is a small fish that has high levels of the highly sought-after omega-3 fatty acids. They come in small tins and are usually priced under $1.50 per can. And because they're either smoked or kippered giving them even more flavour, I felt they would be awesome in some sort of lunch hand food. Here the recipe I recommend for people who are limited to tuna and salmon as their only lunchy fish options.

or Wrap Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 can of boneless smoked herring drained (*kippered also works)
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese
- Dash of lemon pepper
- 1 teaspoon grainy mustard
- 1 teaspoon capers, drained
- 2 teaspoons red onion, sliced
- 1 teaspoon fresh dill, finely chopped (*parsley also works, but I like dill better)
Directions:
Wash and dry a piece of romaine lettuce or toast up a slice of keto bread to make your base.
Spread the cream cheese on the lettuce or toast then sprinkle on lemon pepper. Lay the herring on top.
Spread grainy mustard on top of the herring, adding red onion, capers and dill on top. Make sure it looks pretty!
If you're using toast, you're ready to go. If you doing a wrap, gently fold the lettuce leave around the stack and munch away!
This is only one way to try working more small fatty fish like herring into your daily routine, but I'm sure there are lots of ways it can be enjoyed in sandwich or wrap form!
