I love a good Philly cheesesteak sandwich. All that meaty, cheesy goodness, I figured how could I not make a pizza inspired by it? I use a garlic parmesan white sauce as the base, to give a nod to the garlic butter that is usually used on the bun of the sandwich, then top with sautéed onions and mushrooms, sliced green peppers, and of course, the beef.
Keto Philly Cheesesteak Pizza Recipe
Garlic Parmesan White Sauce Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons oat fibre
- 1⅔ cup unsweetened coconut milk beverage (*Or any non-dairy milk.) (or other non-dairy milk)
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 4 garlic cloves, finely minced
- ⅔ cup parmesan cheese, finely grated
Philly Cheesesteak Pizza Ingredients:
- One batch of Lupin Flour Sourdough Pizza Crusts OR keto cheesy pizza crusts OR keto cauliflower pizza crusts
- ½ lb cooked rib eye or flank steak, thinly sliced
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon ghee or avocado oil(if using flank steak)
- ¼ cup provolone, grated
- ¼ cup mozzarella grated (or more provalone)
- ⅓ cup mushrooms, sliced
- ⅔ cup yellow onions, sliced
- 2 teaspoons avocado oil
- ½ medium green pepper, thinly sliced
- Fresh parsley, finely chopped
Directions:
Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant, around 1-2 minutes. Whisk in oat fibre until thickened and consistent. Slowly add milk, whisking constantly until smooth, thickened, and bubbly. Whisk in salt and pepper.
Add parmesan cheese and whisk another 30 seconds. Remove from heat and continue whisking just until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth then set aside to cool before using for pizza. Do not allow to boil after adding cheese to prevent curdling. Once cooled, cover and refrigerate up to 5 days.
Add 1 teaspoon avocado oil to your pan/cooktop and sautee sliced onions until caramelized, around 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, adding mushrooms halfway through. Once the onions are caramelized and the mushrooms browned and softened, transfer to a bowl.
Increase to high heat and add another teaspoon of oil. Season with salt and pepper and spread the super thinly sliced steak in an even layer. Let brown for a couple of minutes undisturbed. Season top side with salt and pepper then flip and continue to cook until fully cooked.
Preheat oven to 450F (or maintain heat at 350F for sourdough pizza crusts). Spread the garlic parmesan sauce over the crusts. Top with half the cheese then spread the onion mushroom mixture, then add the layer of beef, followed by the green peppers then the remaining cheese.
Cook in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes (or 17-20 minutes for sourdough pizza crust) or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove from oven and sprinkle with fresh parsley. Slice and serve.
