The first time I ate this creamy pulled pork keto burrito bag, I was in the backcountry doing a wilderness survival course. When I took my first bite, it really didn’t feel like “survival” at all. It was a delicious, hot savoury meal that rivalled meals I’ve made fresh at home. I am excited to share it because this dehydrated meal will definitely be making an appearance in my pack for any extended backpacking trips.

Creamy Burrito Bag Dehydrated Camp Meal Recipe

Ingredients:

All dried up & ready to go!

Directions:

  1. Season pulled pork or shredded chicken with ¼ teaspoon taco seasoning then spread it out on one side of a dehydrator roll sheet. Add red pepper on the other side.

  2. Season cauliflower with remaining taco seasoning onto a second dehydrator sheet. With the remaining space, pour in the salsa.

  3. Turn on the dehydrator and run for 4-5 hours, until everything is completely dry. (*Note: If you double or make multiples of this recipe, you may need more than two dehydrated roll sheets. Alternatively, you can simply do the various ingredients in batches.)

Adding dried salsa to bag.
  1. Break up the salsa into pieces and add to a Ziploc bag with dehydrated pork or chicken, cauliflower, red pepper and sour cream powder. Pack shredded cheese into a separate bag.

  2. Around 20 minutes before you plan to eat, add ⅓ cup water to the burrito bag and stir. When ready to eat, add hot (not boiling), little by little, stirring to combine until it’s at your preferred consistency. Seal the bag or cover the container if using one and let sit for a couple of minute to let water fully absorb.

  3. Top with shredded cheese if using. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy hot. *Tip: Bring a packet of hot sauce if you like it spicy.

Be warned: This creamy keto burrito bag recipe changed my life and raised my expectations of how good dehydrated camp meals can be. You may have trouble going back to the pre-packaged ones you buy at the store. I hope you like this dish as much as I did.
