I come from a family of crab-lovers, so it surprises me that I’ve taken this long to come up with my own preferred low-carb, keto-friendly crab dip, but now I have it, and it’s awesome if I do say so myself.

Keto Hot Crab Dip Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon butter, unsalted
  • 4oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1½ tablespoons sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup Gruyere (*aged white cheddar also works), grated and divided
  • 1/3 cup Monterey Jack (*Gouda or Fontina also works), grated and divided
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tablespoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • 1 large pinch paprika
  • 1 small pinch celery salt
  • 1 small pinch nutmeg, (freshly grated if possible)
  • One 4oz can of crab meat, drained
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
  • Fresh chopped parsley or chives or more green onion, thinly sliced

Directions:

  1. Heat a small sauce pan to medium low heat. Melt butter in pan. Stir in green onion and garlic until fragrant, adding a dash of salt while cooking. Remove from heat and add to a bowl and allow to cool completely.

  2. Preheat oven to 325F. In a large bowl, beat together the cream cheese, mayonnaise and sour cream with a hand mixer until smooth.

  3. Stir in the green onion and garlic, then the Monterey jack, gruyere, worcestershire, lemon juice, and spices, until thoroughly combined. Season to taste with sea salt and pepper.

  4. Fold in the crab and transfer to a small baking dish. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of cheddar and 1 tablespoon Monterey Jack over top.

  5. Bake in the oven for 15-25 minutes until golden brown and bubbling. Wait 7-10 minutes to allow to set then garnish with fresh chopped parsley, chives or thinly sliced green onion and serve warm with keto crackers, keto bread, or cut veggies. (*Cooking times can vary widely depending on the oven, size of the dish, and whether you stored it in the fridge before heating up, so keep an eye on it.)
